Today I went to Romni Wools (658 Queen St.) to pick out some yarn for Greg's scarf. He only owns one (to my amazement) and I offered to make him one. I have never really shopped in a wool/yarn specialty shop before and the selection is beautiful!

We knew that he wanted a two tone striped scraf with the stripes running lengthwise as opposed to the standard horizontal. We made our way through the store and it seemed that the yarns we liked just got more and more expensive. Ultimately I understood why homemade goods cost so much in the stores when you purchased them. I can't imagine that people who sell their goods really make money on the time that they spend on the piece. They couldn't - I think most of the money they make would just cover the cost. So you'd just have to love what you were doing.

At any rate, we chose two types of yarn:
2x ROWAN biggy print - 100% merino wool in a lovely olive/army green
2x GUYS Trends - 50% wool, 50% acrylic in a mixed green (so it goes from lights greens to dark greens with bits of pale yellow)
They look pretty fantastic together! Now I just have to come up with the design.

I think that that they will be fatter stripes. The ROWAN will be in a plain stitch as it varies in chunkiness and the GUYS one I will do a funkier stitch since it is an even consistency.

I am excited about this new project! I will post pictures soon.
