Today I went to Romni Wools (658 Queen St.) to pick out some yarn for Greg's scarf. He only owns one (to my amazement) and I offered to make him one. I have never really shopped in a wool/yarn specialty shop before and the selection is beautiful!
We knew that he wanted a two tone striped scraf with the stripes running lengthwise as opposed to the standard horizontal. We made our way through the store and it seemed that the yarns we liked just got more and more expensive. Ultimately I understood why homemade goods cost so much in the stores when you purchased them. I can't imagine that people who sell their goods really make money on the time that they spend on the piece. They couldn't - I think most of the money they make would just cover the cost. So you'd just have to love what you were doing. At any rate, we chose two types of yarn: 2x ROWAN biggy print - 100% merino wool in a lovely olive/army green 2x GUYS Trends - 50% wool, 50% acrylic in a mixed green (so it goes from lights greens to dark greens with bits of pale yellow) They look pretty fantastic together! Now I just have to come up with the design. I think that that they will be fatter stripes. The ROWAN will be in a plain stitch as it varies in chunkiness and the GUYS one I will do a funkier stitch since it is an even consistency. I am excited about this new project! I will post pictures soon. Friday, November 26

Today
I got an interesting link from my friend Joan. It was of course
forwarded to her from someone else. It tells the story of the Braball
and the artist who made it. Essentially it is a ball made of thousands
of bras linked together. It weighs over 1800pds I think!
At any rate how this ball came to be is a really interesting story and kudos to the artist who organized and to all the people who helped her. Here is the story... I have posted one pic under my Misc Photo album, but you can find more on the official site.

Yesterday
it snowed. Not alot but enough to give me a fuzzy feeling inside with
thoughts of Christmas and all those other thoughts that come with that:
end of the year, meeting up with friends, shovelling the driveway,
getting stuck in snow mounds, coming home and the only sound you can
hear is the crunching of the snow your feet make... (one of my
favourite sounds actually!)
This morning when I went to get the paper at breakfast I noticed everything was covered in a light layer of snow again. More than yesterday. It was already melting by the time I drove to work, but it was nice anyways. Friday, November 12

So, for those of you who don't already know, I crochet. I learned when I was a kid and got back into it a couple of years ago when my friends started having babies. (I made a couple of baby afghans and they turned out surprisingly well!) I most recently made my friend Marcie a poncho for her daughter (it's too big of course!) and a baby sweater and matching bunny hat (sizing more accurate there). Anyhoo, I started working on an afghan for myself last year. I got to s certain and then life got busy and I put it aside. I picked it up again recently and finished off all teh squares and am now in the process of stiching the squares together. I am about half way done. I have pics but haven't posted them yet. (Will do that soon!) My next endaevor is to learn how to knit. There are far more books and patterns, and the patterns seem to be a lot more interesting and well, modern. Although if someone could recommend a good place to get crochet patterns, please let me know! |
